This is the first blog post from Mr. Amazing at Amazing Grace CIRCUS! in Nyack, NY.
AGC! is a non-profit circus arts organization, formed in 2002 at Grace Episcopal Church Nyack and dedicated to training children and teens the art of C.I.R.C.U.S. – Confidence. Imagination. Respect. Cooperation. Understanding. Success.
A parent asked me today at our 6th Annual July 4th Family Fun Day Camp what ‘this all means to me’ anyway. I had to stop for a moment and think about the child in camp, in our Circus Teen Troupe, in our in-school CircusGYM class, who improves their confidence 100% with our training; or the child that goes on to a career in circus; or the light bulb that switches ON for any child when they realize they CAN do anything they put their mind to. I’ve seen a lot of kids in 30 years create their own reality through circus arts learning.
Are we the only way that kids can create their own learning reality for themselves? Heck no…but I dare say we are the coolest way for kids to become ‘somebody’. Who are WE? The hundreds of circus arts coaches who teach this skill to children, teens and adults who have created a specific curriculum of circus arts education designed to improve one’s skill set 100% or more through an adaptive learning process.
This blog is intended to update the parent interested in understanding the what and why of circus arts education and learning; for the serious student of circus arts education; for the granting institution that wants to know what we do and how we do it and why we need increased funding to do it…and for you.
